Why do Foreign suppliers need an FSVP Importer?
To ensure all foreign suppliers meet the new U.S. FSMA standards, FDA requires an FSVP Importer for all exporters to the U.S.
The FSVP Importer is obligated to ensure that all the requisite documentation has been submitted, and that the foreign supplier is in conformity with all FSMA standards.
Normally this FSVP Importer should be the US buyer. However, many American buyers such as Walmart, Publix, Rayle’s, Kehe and several others refuse to take on this responsibility. The foreign supplier must then use a third party as the FSVP Importer.
